CARE has been working in Chad for 30 years.
Chad is one of the world’s poorest countries.
CARE works on a number of long-term programmes improving the quality of life among poor communities in Chad.
Fighting HIV and AIDS
We are working to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS in the country by raising awareness about the disease, particularly among high-risk groups, such as migrant workers.
Conflict
The conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan has forced millions of people to flee their homes. According to United Nations and government estimates, approximately 200,000 of Sudanese refugees from the Darfur region have crossed the border into Chad.
The large influx of Sudanese refugees has further strained already scarce resources.
CARE is managing refugee camps in Eastern Chad, where we distribute food and other essential items and ensure that people have access to clean water and sanitation, as well as providing training and opportunities to earn an income.
