We help vulnerable and marginalised Afghans to have a say in the decisions that affect their lives.
At the beginning of 2010, CARE Afghanistan was serving more than 1,500,000 people.
Education
CARE is recognised in Afghanistan as a leader in community-based education, particularly for girls. We work in partnership with the Ministry of Education to develop curriculum and teaching standards.
We mobilise communities, train teachers, build schools, set up libraries, and protect schools and students from attacks.
Empowerment of Women
CARE provides food assistance for thousands of war widows and their families. Many take part in vocational training, livestock rearing, and micro-finance programmes.
CARE provides training for women, helps them find jobs and start up their own businesses.
We also support maternal and newborn health, and are building solidarity groups amongst vulnerable Afghan women to raise awareness about their rights.
Rural Development
CARE provides training and has helped communities with the construction of roads, irrigation systems and schools.
We support farmers with vouchers for tools, seeds and fertilisers, alongside technical support.
Emergency Response & Rehabilitation
CARE helps provide shelter for refugees returning from Pakistan and Iran.
We work with a focus both in Kabul and elsewhere on safe housing, basic services and livelihood opportunities.
We aim to provide work opportunities for over 50,000 households who currently do lot have secure access to food.
